Sharjah 24: A two-day family carnival featuring a vibrant and exciting mix of live music, traditional dances, competitions, and plenty of fun activities is set to transform the spectacular outdoor setting of Al Majaz Amphitheatre as the first edition of the Sharjah Events Festival (SEF) gets underway from December 10 – 11.
Organised by Sharjah Events – a unique platform that offers information on the diverse sights, attractions and events happening in Sharjah around the year, the free-to-attend festival will host an enthralling line up of activities including stunning roaming parades, skilled stunt performers and a thrilling treasure hunt to delight audiences of all ages.
An initiative of the Sharjah Government Media Bureau (SGMB), the fun-fuelled Sharjah Events Festival organised by Sharjah Events under the slogan #See_Sharjah, will foster community spirit and celebrate unique traditions and cultures.
Ahead of the debut edition of the festival, Her Excellency Alia Al Suwaidi, Director of SGMB, said: “With an exciting range of artistic and cultural performances, dining and entertainment choices, Sharjah Events Festival is a one-of-a-kind festival that promises two fun filled days for the whole family. The immersive cultural experience in a serene outdoor setting will create warm and happy memories for everyone and is a perfect destination for an exciting weekend.”
She added: “Apart from showcasing a microcosm of the events and activities our participating entities hold throughout the year, the Sharjah Events Festival will also mark the official launch of the calendar of events for 2022.”
From specialist performers in bright outfits who will dazzle audiences with their stunt skills and colourful roaming parades that integrate animated mascots, underwater creatures, and costumed characters, to a host of adrenaline-boosting adventure activities, creative workshops, a mini market for used books, film screenings, and more, the inaugural edition of the Sharjah Events Festival will appeal to a broad audience of all ages and provide ample opportunities for enjoyment and fun for both adults and children.
Hands-on interactive workshops to inspire the inner artist and nurture family values and holistic development will be part of the rich and diverse cultural programming planned for the two-day event. Participants can learn how to construct and design character masks, create a unique light painting, learn the sign language, and discover new tips and techniques to boost their skills in the visual media. Awareness workshops will focus on building personal development skills, administering first-aid, and the art of inculcating values to boost family ties, amongst others.
A great selection of exciting and innovative films from countries across the globe have been lined up for screening at the Sharjah Events Festival. More than 25 films, ranging from animation and shorts, will be screened over the two days, each representing the unique vision of creative filmmakers.
A display of classic cars will be a key attraction at the event while adventure enthusiasts can test their muscle power and enjoy the unique thrills of an exciting treasure hunt. Families can also take part in a range of exciting competitions and win attractive prizes daily while fun attractions at the venue present plenty of photo opportunities for all visitors.
The Sharjah Events Festival will also host live music and poetry sessions; present live cooking demos by top chefs in the emirate; arrange boat rides around the scenic waters of the Khalid Lagoon; feature handicraft displays and organise free health check-ups; amongst others. Visitors can also immerse themselves in live acts and a series of other educational and entertainment events.
More than 25 public and private entities in Sharjah will be participating in the event which will be held from 4pm-11pm on Friday, December 10, and 2pm-10pm on Saturday, December 11.
Amongst the prominent public entities participating in the debut edition of the Sharjah Events Festival are the Supreme Council for Family Affairs, Sharjah Police, Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq), Sharjah Book Authority, Sharjah Media City (Shams), University of Sharjah, Sharjah Institute for Heritage, and Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority.
Other entities participating in the festival’s broad range of activities include Environment and Protected Areas Authority of Sharjah, Sharjah Broadcasting Authority, Environment and Protected Areas Authority, Sharjah Museums Authority, Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority, Sharjah Districts and Villages Affairs Department, Sharjah Civil Defense, Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services, Sharjah Research, Technology and Innovation Park, Sharjah Private Education Authority, Sharjah Social Services Department, and the Sharjah Academy for Police Sciences.
Knowledge Without Borders, Sharjah Centre for Learning Disabilities, Sharjah Cooperative Society, the Pink Caravan, FUNN - Media Arts for Youth and Children, Sharjah International Marine Sports Club, Sharjah Girls Guides, Sharjah Sports Council, and the Sharjah Old Cars Club will also participate at the event.
