Sharjah Diary (2/10): At University of Sharjah

November 23, 2021 / 11:44 AM
The next day, I formally joined my office at the University of Sharjah's College of Shari'ah and Islamic Studies. In a warm and friendly atmosphere, I was welcomed into the Dean's office and then into my department chair. If you're curious about Sultan's educational vision, here you've come to the right place.
The University of Sharjah is a glaring example of the Sultan's admiration for learning and intellectuals. You may see the magnitude of his vision for the renaissance of Muslims and the entire human society through knowledge. Yes, it was the vision that transformed Sharjah into a big knowledge hub, providing all of the necessary educational environments through a broad network of universities, colleges, institutes, and academies, making Sharjah a knowledge beacon that attracts students and researchers from all over the world to study and conduct research here. All of this is done in order to create a generation that is well-versed in different areas of knowledge and capable of progressing their communities and serving mankind in a variety of fields.

The University of Sharjah is located in the heart of the University city in the Emirate of Sharjah, on the strip of the Arabian Gulf and is one of the world's leading research universities. Beautiful architecture and stunning views adorn the campus, which embodies the Arab and Islamic traditions through its spectacular architectural design. The campus is comprised of a variety of facilities, including well-equipped classrooms, advanced scientific and research laboratories, beautiful libraries, technology centers, computer laboratories, clubs, large sports complexes, student centers, Hotels, Staff residences and a variety of retail establishments.

His highness' unwavering support has enabled the University of Sharjah to expand to 14 colleges, which now offer more than 111 diverse academic programs at the bachelor's, master's, and doctoral levels. This has been accomplished in a relatively short period of time, thanks to His highness' vision and endless support. The university's 17,000 male and female students representing more than 200 nationalities are educated by 668 faculty members representing a varied range of academic areas and extensive international experience. Long-term strategic collaborations have been established with 31 academic institutions that are simply world-class in their respective fields. The Times Higher Education International's World University Rankings for 2022 have ranked the University of Sharjah as one of the world's top 500 institutions.

As a leading research institution, University of Sharjah strives to improve the quality of human life by providing a wide range of high-quality academic and professional programs, as well as an innovative educational approach that engages students and prepares them to assume leadership roles in society.

Students and researchers from all over the world are drawn to Sharjah because of the elevated vision of His Highness: "We're working with top universities throughout the world to develop innovative academic programs, student and professor exchanges, and joint scientific research" His Majesty remarked during the Sharjah Educational Academy's inauguration: "Our vision is based on a number of basic concepts, the most significant of which is that all members of society should get quality education. Many educational institutions have sprung up in recent decades to provide our children with a high-quality education that focuses on developing knowledge and innovative talents in a range of subjects, as well as the capacity to engage logically with people around the world”.

It is my intention to write a series of essays on His Highness' educational vision and ambitions, as well as the University of Sharjah's academic achievements, in the coming days. I look forward to hearing from you.
