Sharjah 24: In cooperation with the National Center of Meteorology, the Sharjah Youth, affiliated with the Rubu' Qarn Foundation for Creating Leaders and Innovators, organised a workshop to educate its affiliates, aged 13 to 18, about the concept of natural disasters and the most important measures taken by the competent authorities in the UAE to reduce its negative effects on human lives and infrastructure.
During the workshop titled "Natural Disasters and the Mechanism for Monitoring them." "Natural Disasters and the Mechanism for Monitoring them",  held through a visual communication platform and was presented by Dr. Ali Mujahid, Senior Engineer of Seismic Engineering, and Amna Al Zaabi, a weather forecaster at the National Center of Meteorology, the participants learned about the concept of natural disasters. Al-Zaabi pointed out that weather forecasting is carried out in the monitoring process to study the current situation to identify, for example, temperatures in the regions of the country and neighboring regions. Moreover, to studying air masses, analyzing information and forecasting, and pointed out the importance of automatic monitoring stations, satellites, and radar in preparing and analyzing weather maps of various types and issuing weather forecasts to the media, the public, and the beneficiaries, and sending warnings and warnings in dangerous weather conditions.

For his part, Dr. Ali Mujahid presented a definition of general concepts that include emergency, crisis, and disaster, shedding light on natural hazards and earthquakes, their causes, monitoring networks, the description of the tsunami and how to monitor it, and the most influential disasters in the world.

Dr. Mujahid touched on the science of earthquakes and what should be known to understand earthquakes and reduce their severity, reviewing the definition of earthquakes, the internal structure of the earth, the types of ground movements known as faults. Moreover, the causes of earthquakes, their types in terms of location, causes depth and strength and introduces types of seismometers.

Mujahid presented the concept of the tsunami, its early warning center, and procedures for preparing and responding to the danger of earthquakes and tsunamis. He also shed light on promoting a culture of disaster risk reduction, accessing the emergency solutions manual, and communicating with the National Center of Meteorology.
