Sharjah 24: The Conservation Department of Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority (SEWA) organised a number of virtual events within the “My Nursery is Safe” initiative, in cooperation with Sharjah Education Council, preparing an awareness and entertainment programme appropriate for 2 – 4-year-old children in 17 nurseries in Sharjah.
The events tackle electricity and water rationalisation, security and safety standards, and avoiding risks while using electricity.

Engineer Ghada Juma Salem, Director of the Conservation Department, explained that the Departmen intensifies efforts to educate children and school students about the importance of rationalising energy and water consumption; and the modern methods of rationalisation explaining the importance of rationalization, the role of society in development and sustainability, and how this can be achieved through reading, education and stories.

The awareness programmes organised by SEWGA distribute story books about rationalization and prizes, and presenting the “rationalisation hour” initiatives to introduce the initiative to students of all ages.

Engineer Ghada Juma Salem stressed that preparing specialised awareness programmes for nursery children is one of the main foundations set by SEWGA as part of its strategy to consolidate the concepts of rationalising consumption among children from a younger age to become a daily habit to be practiced at different stages of life.

Engineer Ghada Juma Salem pointed out that the nursery awareness programme is expected to benefit a large number of children between 2 and 4 years old.

Engineer Ghada Juma Salem concluded that the “My Nursery is Safe” initiative is an addition to the success of the rationalisation process and advancing sustainability in the emirate. The initiative also contributes to the consolidation of the principles and concepts of rationalisation among future generations by educating children about methods of rationalisation of electricity and water, avoiding the dangers of electricity.  Positive ideas and correct methods were introduced to children through the characters of the rationalisation campaign: “Qatoura and Kahrub”, to create a link between cartoon characters and rationalisation in a fun way.
