Sharjah24: The local mission of Sharjah Archaeology Authority (SAA) found a collection of ancient Islamic coins in the Central Region of the Emirate of Sharjah. These coins represent rare silver dirhams dating back to the Abbasid Caliphate period, in addition to a copper penny.
These coins are among the first collections and bear the icons of that period, represented by five of the Caliphs of that era: Caliph Abu Jaafar Al-Mansur, Caliph Muhammad Al-Mahdi, Caliph Harun Al-Rashid, Caliph Muhammad Al-Amin and Caliph Abu Jaafar Abdullah Al-Mamoun, with a solid dirham for Mrs. Zubaydah (Umm Jaafar). Harun al-Rashid's wife.

Building on this, Dr. Sabah Aboud Jassim, Director General of the Sharjah Archaeology Authority stated that these collections were discovered during the excavation process in the Central Region of the Emirate of Sharjah in September 2021, affirming that these new components of the discovery represent clear evidence of the early Abbasid presence in the region. These dirhams are inside a glazed pottery jar of the Abbasid style, and this urn is dated to the ninth century AD.
