Sharjah 24: The Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry discussed with the Republic of India the joint economic relations between both sides, and ways to enhance the role of the industrial and commercial sectors in light of the fruitful and constructive cooperation between the two friendly countries. The meeting also exchanged views on how to benefit from the expertise of each party, contributing to the establishment of Joint investment projects, and expands the horizons of communication between the business communities in Sharjah and India in different vital sectors.
Discussions were during the meeting that was held at the Chamber's headquarters, between His Excellency Mohammed Ahmed Amin Al Awadi, Director General of the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and His Excellency K. Kalimuthu, Consul of Economy and Commerce at the Consulate General of India in Dubai, in the presence of Fatima Khalifa Al Mokarrab, Director of the Department of International Relations at the Sharjah Chamber, where they stressed the importance of putting forward initiatives that promote meetings between trade delegations, which would accelerate the performance of business sectors, and enhance cooperation in the cultural, tourism and educational fields between the two friendly countries.
His Excellency Mohammed Ahmed Amin Al Awadi confirmed that the relations between the UAE and the Republic of India are historical based on solid foundations of mutual respect and interest in different social, cultural and economic fields, stressing the keenness of the Sharjah Chamber to enhance cooperation with the Consulate General of India in Dubai to develop economic and trade relations between the Emirate of Sharjah and the Republic of India, where the UAE ranks first in the Arab world and 11th globally in terms of foreign direct investment in India at about $17.2 billion (63.2 billion dirhams), and it is India’s third largest trading partner after the United States and China, with an estimated trade exchange value of about $60 billion (232 billion dirhams), while India is the country's second largest non-oil trading partner.
Al Awadhi reviewed the economic status and attractive investment advantages in Sharjah, as well as the services provided by the Chamber to companies wishing to invest.
K. Kalimuthu expressed his appreciation to Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry in supporting the development of trade between the UAE and the Republic of India, stressing that this meeting comes as a continuation of the tireless efforts to develop frameworks of cooperation between India and the Emirate of Sharjah.
