Sharjah 24: The Municipality of Dibba Al Hisn and the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) are organising the activities of the eighths edition of the “Dried Fish and Fishing Festival”, which will start next Wednesday, and will last for four days.
Festival activities include a large number of recreational, heritage, awareness and cultural activities that celebrate the ancient dried fish industry with the participation of Sharjah government departments, and highlight the marine heritage of the Emirati people, and includes a number of popular bands in the region.

His Excellency Mohammed Ahmed Amen Al Awadi, Director General of the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), said that SCCI is proud of the cooperation and strategic partnership with the municipality of Dibba Al Hisn. 

Al Awadi added that organising the festival is a part of this relationship, and SCCI is keen to activate the economic, commercial and tourism movement in the Eastern Region, as well as to celebrate the series the ancient professions and industries that Sharjah people have practiced for generations.

Al Awadi pointed that SCCI has always been keen to organise this festival since its beginning nearly nine years ago, and to highlight the popular heritage of the United Arab Emirates as part of its social responsibility. SCCI also supports the food industries in Sharjah, whereas the dried fish industry is one of the most important traditional industries are the most ancient in the region, and contributed to achieving food security for the Emirati people.

Hi Excellency Taleb Abdullah Al Yahyai, Director of Dibba Al Hisn Municipality said that the municipality is keen to organise this festival with SCCI every year with the aim of celebrating one of the most important ancient professions practiced by the people of the Emirates, from father and grandfather to grandsons over hundreds of years, as well as to preserve an important aspect of the heritage. The festival is one of the most important events specialised in the dried fish industry in the Arabian Gulf region as a whole.

Al Yahyai invited all residents of Sharjah, the eastern region and the UAE, as well as tourists, to visit the festival and learn about the Emirati heritage, and all related professions, crafts and industries, as well as to enjoy the rich artistic atmosphere.
