Sharjah 24: The Screening Programme organised by the Early Intervention Centre, an affiliate of Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services (SCHS), in 2006, is of particular importance in the success of early detection programmes and in reaching children as soon as the case is detected to take the necessary measures.
Due to COVID-19, the Centre worked on reaching families and children wherever they are through the electronic screening programme.
The family fills out the application (the form) with the required information. Data reaches the screening team to analyse the data and communicate immediately with the families to complete the information, provide advice or to complete the evaluation process based on the nature of the initial results.
During the last period, the Centre received 157 electronic screening forms that initially showed that 50 boys and girls need the services that were then provided in accordance with international best practices.
Despite challenges imposed by COVID-19, the Early Intervention Centre continued to provide services to beneficiaries according to plans (remote home visits via direct video calls) or face to face while adhering to the precautionary measures.
During that period, the Centre recorded 590 family counselling sessions, 3,471 training classes, 373 speech and language sessions, 360 webinars, 55 virtual educational activities, 3 virtual educational trips, 5 music therapy sessions and 7 fraternity council activities. Total number of sessions provided was 4,403 sessions.
During this period, the Early Intervention Centre was very keen to provide a comfortable environment to staff, during their work (remote home visits via direct video calls) and was keen to provide all forms of psychological support, in addition to interactive activities and various workshops .
In this regard, the Centre's employees participated in 116 virtual courses and workshops, and the Centre’s employees conducted 53 virtual lectures.
