Sharjah 24: Sheikha Dr. Naglaa Al Mualla, Director of the Central Labs Department in Sharjah Municipality, and Vice-Chairperson of the Executive Committee for the Expansion of Healthy Cities in Sharjah, said that the municipality received a delegation from the World Health Organization (WHO), on Tuesday, to review the best practices followed in the Emirate.
Sheikha Dr. Naglaa Al Mualla confirmed that the World Health Organization delegation is looking at the practices of the Emirate of Sharjah that aim to improve the quality of life, especially sustainable development in the environment.
In statements to "Sharjah 24", Sheikha Dr, Naglaa Al Mualla indicated that the environmental axis assigned to the municipality includes 11 criteria for classifying healthy cities, pointing out that there are many initiatives to raise the water quality index, sanitation, food safety, and air pollution, which have been achieved.
The Director of the Central Labs Department in Sharjah Municipality stated that such accomplishments were through the application of laws, legislation and initiatives of government and private entities and community participation, with the aim of promoting sustainable development in the environment.
She revealed that these practices include increasing the green areas in the Muwaileh suburb, to reach an area of 4 million square metres. In addition to a community system to treat and recycle waste from its formation to the production of energy from it using “automated” and environmentally friendly systems, as well as linking the suburb to a well-equipped sewage network, with highly efficient treatment plants for treating gray water. This also include the presence of highly efficient and controlled desalination plants for the production of drinking water and its conformity with environmental specifications.
She added that during the visit, best practices in laboratory analysis methods were reviewed to ensure the safety of bottled and distributed drinking water in the Emirate of Sharjah.
