Sharjah 24: Sharjah Municipality confirmed its keenness to enhance its monitoring and awareness role on the beaches of Sharjah, and to raise safety and security standards for the public.
A leading specialised rescue company was contracted to follow up swimming activity in the designated areas. Khalid bin Falah Al Suwaidi, Assistant Director General of Sharjah Municipality for the Customer Service Sector, stated that Sharjah beaches witness a turnout from the public, especially at the beginning of the summer, whereas the municipality inspection teams educate the public on swimming in the designated areas and at the appropriate times.
Al Suwaidi explained that the Municipality is developing an annual plan that includes awareness campaigns, on-site and follow-up visits, and providing lifeguards according to the needs of the beaches. Official holidays and events were taken into account by increasing the number of lifeguards, whereas the total number of the rescue team reached 58 lifeguards, distributed according to work needs. Al Suwaidi stated that lifeguards are present during the permitted swimming hours, and implement the instructions of the National Centre of Meteorology to provide safety and security standards for beachgoers
Al Suwaidi pointed out that the Municipality didn’t record any drowning cases in the areas designated for swimming since the beginning of this year.
He pointed out that the municipality provided more than 17 rescue platforms, on the beaches, according to the best standards, and work is currently underway to install 8 other platforms. Lifeguards are provided with all the tools and equipment necessary to carry out their work with ease and to immediately deal with any emergency that may occur on the beach.
