Sharjah 24: Sharjah Museums Authority (SMA), in conjunction with World Environment Day, which falls on June 5, and World Ocean Day on June 8 of each year, is organising an event to highlight the importance of the environment and marine life, and to ensure they are free from pollution, and to devise solutions that will preserve and sustain them.
This event is consistent with the objectives of the World Environment Day, which was celebrated in 1972, and the World Oceans Day, which was celebrated in 2009. Through the event, SMA seeks to educate the public about the dangers surrounding the environment, and to introduce UAE's environmental and water resources, and efforts made to preserve and sustain it for future generations.
The event, which will be held via the "Zoom" platform, includes a virtual workshop, targeting children from 10 to 14 years old, starting at 5:30 pm until 6:30 pm next Tuesday, corresponding to June 8, 2021. The workshop aims to raise awareness of the importance of preserving the marine environment, encourage participants to devise solutions to enhance its sustainability, and respect the laws that have been enacted in order to preserve it.
The event also includes a virtual dialogue session, from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm, on the same day, and Marwa Al Mahmoud Musaed, Secretary of Sharjah Aquariums, will moderate the panel discussion. The event will witness the presence of Hamda Abdullah Al Asli, Head of Marine Life Department at the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment and Khansa Al Bulooki, Director of Environmental Awareness Department at the Environment Agency in Abu Dhabi.
The event aims to introduce the environmental and water resources in the United Arab Emirates, the efforts made to preserve them, ways to restore the ecosystem. In addition to discussing solutions to make water resources sustainable, as well as educating the public about the importance of preserving the environment and marine life, and motivating the next generation to innovate and research to find innovative ways for sustainability.
For her part, His Excellency Manal Ataya, Director General of the Sharjah Museums Authority (SMA), stated that this event is a continuation of a series of events and activities organised by SMA as part of its “Because We Care” initiative to discuss the importance of preserving the environment, and the need to find solutions that contribute to its sustainability, raising public awareness of the importance and necessity of the environment for societies.
