SP launches “Beware of the Risks of Cyber Blackmailing” drive

Sharjah 24: Sharjah Police General Command represented by the Media and Public Relations Department of Sharjah Police, Criminal Investigation Department at Sharjah Police, Sharjah Police Comprehensive Stations Department, launched a month-long Beware of the Risks of Cyber Blackmailing campaign, in collaboration with strategic partners (Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority and Tawjeeh centre).
As part of the Ministry of Interior and Sharjah Police General Command strategy aiming at strengthening security and safety, the Sharjah Police launched the awareness campaign to prevent community residents from falling victim to online fraud.
Colonel Omar Ahmed Abu Al Zoud, Director of the Criminal Investigation Department at Sharjah Police said that the campaign aims to Raise alarm over the spread of cybercrimes and blackmailing cases and to focus on educating community members about online safety.
The Director of the Criminal Investigation Department at Sharjah Police explained that the campaign is launched in English, Arabic and Urdu with a full explanation of the essential information on how to avoid electronic blackmailing by raising awareness through main social media platforms, in addition to electronic displays on RTA buses, in addition to raising awareness through different print, audiovisual and smart media.
Abu Al Zoud called community members to be cautious in dealing with social media platforms, emphasising that they must take measures to ensure that they are protected against electronic threats or extortion in any way, and never send pictures or sensitive information to strangers.
Abu Al Zoud invited community members not to hesitate to report such cases to their special hotline numbers and e-mails for cybercrimes..
