Sharjah 24: Major Saeed Al Zaabi, Acting Director of the Criminal Investigation Branch at Eastern Region Police Department (ERPD), stated that the campaign launched by ERPD to enhance awareness of the dangers of fraud by phone is a societal responsibility.
Al Zaabi called on the public to take utmost caution when dealing with anonymous calls and messages, which are aimed at hacking bank accounts by requesting confidential banking data from the client.
In statements to “Sharjah 24”, he said that the high rate of fraudulent crimes over the phone calls for increasing awareness of this type of crimes, which is the main goal ERPD is working to achieve through several initiatives, in cooperation with a number of banks, institutions and government departments.
He added that enhancing awareness of ways to confront and limit the spread of these crimes is a societal responsibility that all segments of society share with the security services.
Al Zaabi noted that a field team has begun work on distributing leaflets and warning posters in the facilities and headquarters of government institutions, commercial centres and banks in the Eastern Region, and a virtual seminar will be organised in this context next June 9.
