SP launches programme to reduce scrap theft crimes

Sharjah 24: Sharjah Police General Command (SP), represented by a number of its specialised departments, launched a programme, with the aim of reducing the theft of homes under construction in particular, and theft of materials in the scrap trade activities in the Emirate.
This comes within the framework of its efforts to reduce theft crimes, and in line with the strategic objective of the Ministry of Interior aimed at enhancing security and safety.

Brigadier Ibrahim Musabah Al Ajil, Deputy Director General of Police Operations at Sharjah Police, stated that the launch of the programme, came in line with the directions of UAE and the Ministry of Interior towards digital transformation, and applying it in its various operations. Such endeavour is implemented by creating an integrated database that contributes to the advancement of security work tasks.

Brigadier Al Ajil pointed out that the programme aims to reduce the rate of theft of scrap materials, regulating the process of selling and buying them, and monitoring that process through the departments concerned with Sharjah Police. This comes in cooperation with Sharjah Economic Development Department (SEDD) and Sharjah Civil Defence as strategic partners, praising their pivotal role in strengthening the security work system, and their effective contribution to enhancing the security and safety of community members.

Brigadier Al Ajil also indicated that Sharjah Police had contacted the authorities that obtained work permits in the field of selling and buying scrap, which numbered 540 licences at the level of the Emirate. 

Sharjah Police briefed the sellers on the programme, which consist of including personal data on the system that is available in three languages: Arabic, English and Urdu. The programme contributes to monitoring work in this sector, which is positively reflected in reducing the theft of materials from homes under construction and selling components for their construction.
