Sharjah 24: Sheikh Fahim bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairman of Department of Government Relations (DGR) in Sharjah stated that the Department contributes to solidify the position of the UAE in general and the Emirate of Sharjah in particular as a knowledge-based economic center that attracts various investments and global partnerships based on technology, innovation, and achieving sustainable development.
Sheikh Fahim bin Sultan Al Qasimi has underscored the importance of the DGR’s plans and objectives , in line with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohamed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, adding that the Department has various ambitious plans on various important sectors; including economy, trade, education, knowledge, culture and heritage, with the aim to become a global hub in those sectors. The Department, which was established in 2014, communicates with strategic partners in various countries of the world as a diplomatic gateway to the Emirate of Sharjah, pointing out that the Department's strategic partner is the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
During his statement, Sheikh Fahim Al Qasimi has highlighted the remarkable efforts that promote the diverse cultural infrastructure in the Emirate of Sharjah, stressing the importance to working to develop it within an international program that sheds light on Emirati culture, through organising several events, contributing in strengthening relations with friendly countries around the world. Continuting his statement, Sheikh Fahim Al Qasimi added that at the level of the economy, the Department of Government Relations (DGR) in Sharjah supports the promotion of diversity in sectors by focusing on modern companies based on technology and innovation, contributing in promoting the emirate’s position in embracing the headquarters of international companies.
Sheikh Fahim bin Sultan Al Qasimi indicated that the Department was briefed on the experiences of societies, companies and international academic institutions, consolidating its relations with their counterparts in Sharjah, monitoring the most important global experiences in sustainable development areas, identifying their details and benefiting from them in order to enrich the experience of institutions in the emirate.
Sheikh Fahim bin Sultan Al Qasimi said that the Government Relations Department, in cooperation with the concerned authorities, supervises the digital transformation project in the Emirate of Sharjah, which began 5 years ago, when 40% of the services of government departments in the emirate became available electronically through providing 24 services, pointing out that there is an ambitious plan to develop a digital infrastructure that connects all departments and provides high-quality services to all citizens and residents of the emirate.
He added that the Department constantly seeks to coordinate and strengthen relations between the institutions and society of the Emirate of Sharjah in general and between other institutions and societies, stressing on the DGR’s constant keenness to attend the most important regional and international cultural, economic and technical events.
He also spoke about the benefit that the Government Relations Department has made from the "Covid 19" crisis in its overall work and plans, emphasising that the remarkable efforts of the emirate of Sharjah in facing the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Regarding the most important strategic partners with whom the Department intends to cooperate in the foreseeable future, he explained that the Government Relations Department works in strategic partnership with all governmental and semi-governmental institutions in the Emirate of Sharjah, being also an effective and influential partner for private companies and institutions that cooperates with all these institutions in order to enrich its experiences with best practices on all levels.
Concluding his statement, Sheikh Fahim bin Sultan Al Qasimi said that by living in a digital age, we should preserve our religion, culture and language, highlighting the importance of the integrated program that His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, aiming to promote the knowledge economy through shedding light on the importance of preserving the emirate’s history and culture among various nations around the world, contributing in keeping abreast with the future.
