Sharjah24: Sharjah Department of Municipalities and Agriculture Affairs held a coordination meeting with the Sharjah Archeology Authority, with the participation of the Department Of Town Planning and Survey, Central Region Branch, and Mleiha Municipality, to discuss the removal of farms in the Mleiha archaeological area and ways to overcome obstacles to accomplish the work within a specific timetable.
At the beginning of the meeting, the head of the department, Dr. Khalifa Musabbah Al Tunaiji, welcomed the attendees, referring to the directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohamed Al Qasimi Member of the Supreme Council, Ruler of Sharjah regarding removing obstacles, facilitating procedures and transporting waste, and fencing archaeological sites to preserve them.

His Excellency also clarified that the removal of random farms and estates from the archaeological area of Mleiha will have a great impact on many cultural, tourism and economic aspects of the region, and contribute to the inclusion of the area in the list of the World Cultural Heritage of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

During the meeting, a working group was formed from Department Of Town Planning and Survey, the Sharjah Archeology Authority and the Mleiha Municipality to work and supervise the removal of compensated farms within a specific period of time.

Issa Yousef, Director of Archeology Department, said that the Mleiha archaeological area has been successfully included in the preliminary list of world cultural heritage, due to the archaeological heritage contained in the area dating back to the stone ages and to the first centuries AD, where the authority is currently working to implement the required standards for archaeological sites, for accreditation by UNESCO.
