The deeply intense drama, ‘1+1=1’, delved into the psychological dangers of confining ourselves into moulds that society expects us to fit into while suppressing the reality of who we really are.
The narrative captures the turmoil experienced by its lead character who feels trapped in the ‘cage’ that society has confined him to, which spirals into an intense personal struggle, eventually leading him down the path of self-destruction.
Directed by Nabeel Al Mazroui and produced by the Ministry of Community Development in Sharjah, the play had won the first place at a theatre competition in Kuwait earlier this year.
The entire cast performed admirably, while an almost bare stage set and dark lighting portrayed both the state of mind of its protagonist, and the powerful, relevant theme it explored.
Organised by the Sharjah Institute for Heritage (SIH), the Sharjah Heritage Days concludes at the Heart of Sharjah this weekend, on April 10. The event is open to visitors from 4–10pm on weekdays and until midnight on weekends.
