16 students from eight countries graduate Arabic course at ALA

They were honoured at a graduation ceremony attended by Dr. Mohammad Safi Al Mostaghanemi, Secretary General of ALA, in addition to the centre’s teaching staff. The Secretary General presented them with certificates of completion.

Programme builds on its ambition to promote cross-cultural dialogue
ALC’s recently concluded Arabic course included students from Poland, Scotland, India, Germany, Spain, Pakistan, the UK and the USA. The students took the free-of-charge, inclusive 45-hour course, comprising 30 lessons, across 10 weeks. On completing the module, the students sat for an evaluation examination to move on to a higher level.

ALA’s courses aim to promote the aesthetics and uniqueness of the Arabic language and seeks to further cross-cultural communication among UAE’s residents. They contribute to enhancing learners’ standard Arabic skills as well as nurturing their communication and pronunciation skills by focusing on reading, writing, speaking and listening. The courses also seek to educate the students on UAE’s culture and history and boost their integration and involvement within the community.

Dr. Mohammad Safi Al Mostaghanemi, Secretary General of ALA, said: “Arabic language is the key to understanding Arabic and Islamic culture, and our aim is to offer its rich legacy to students who take our courses. We pride ourselves in the offerings of the ALA, which is the fruit of the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohamed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah.”

“ALA’s efforts to promote Arabic led to the establishment of the Arabic Language Centre in 2018, which has developed into a hub for Arabic learning. It provides students with an intellectual platform enabled by the expertise of our able teachers. Furthermore, it enhances knowledge-based cultural exchange that promotes our Arab culture and identity around the world,” he added.

So far, more than 100 students from the Philippines, India, Pakistan, the UK, the USA, Germany, Mauritius, China, Russia, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Iran and South Korea have successfully completed the courses offered by the centre. 

In keeping with the continuing efforts to expand its reach to the largest number of people, the centre recently signed a memorandum of understanding with the Sharjah Performing Arts Academy (SPAA) to provide Arabic language classes to the entity’s non-Arab students and faculty.
