Sharjah24: Engineer Ali Al-Suwaidi, Member of the Sharjah Executive Council and Head of the Sharjah Department of Public Works (SDPW), confirmed that the department carries out many development studies and training courses, holds conferences, lectures, workshops and seminars specialised in engineering affairs, and has taken many practical measures aimed at improving and developing the construction system in government buildings, raising the efficiency of buildings and increasing Its quality and longevity.
He said that the department is in the process of creating a database of its buildings that it has completed and publishes it through a number of booklets in addition to the periodic maintenance stages of government buildings and the department's procedures to ensure proper implementation.
He explained that a number of publications related to the department's projects were issued last year regarding the building sustainability specifications, the challenges that faced its implementation, design models and procedures for supervising construction projects in the Emirate of Sharjah.
He pointed out that the department takes into account in its urban projects that it is designed according to sustainability standards, takes into account the rationalization of energy and water consumption and the principles of preserving the environment and thus suits the internal environment, noting that many of the department's projects in which the department play the role of advisor and supervisor due to the efficiency of its engineers, as the number of projects reached The department performed the role of a consultant last year for 60 projects.
Eng. Alia Al-Rand, Director of Building Projects Department, pointed out that the quality of building materials, their quality, and their suitability to climatic conditions and natural factors are among the factors affecting the life of the building in addition to the quality of implementation and the follow-up of technical assets during it, as well as the competencies and skills of workers and technicians carrying out the works and the importance of periodic maintenance of facilities and their impact.
She noted that the buildings implemented on scientific foundations with high quality and modern technology, which are located in areas of a single climatic nature, have a close life span, and the life span between buildings varies according to the different structural components and materials included in their composition, and the higher the quality of these materials and the better their efficiency.
