Sharjah24: India’s glorious jewellery traditions have found their way into the Heart of Sharjah, where the 18th edition of Sharjah Heritage Days (SHD) celebrates the vibrant cultural heritage of 29 nations.
Famed for its exquisite craftsmanship and featuring intricate and delicate handcrafted designs, jewellery in India is an integral element of the country’s aesthetic and cultural history and has a 5,000-year-old history.
Here, at the Sharjah Heritage Days, a selection of everyday and special occasion wear that blends traditional artistry with delicate designs are calling out to fashionistas of all ages. The kiosk showcasing Indian-made products features jewellery made with materials such as ivory-toned and multi-hued beads, and coloured faux stones.
Dainty and elegant bracelets vie for attention with multi-layered emerald-cut stone-studded cuffs. There are outsized statement rings with flower and ethnic motifs featuring clustered beads that will glam up any outfit. Other delicate hand jewellery includes the traditional ‘haathphool rings’, originally from the desert state of Rajasthan in northern India.
The kiosk also stocks a collection of white, beige and brown pashmina shawls – another priceless handcrafted Indian heritage.
The 18th edition of SHD, organised by the Sharjah Institute for Heritage (SIH) is taking place in Heart of Sharjah until April 10, from 4 - 10pm on weekdays and until midnight on weekends.
The festival inaugurated a Khorfakkan chapter this weekend at the eastern enclave’s Heritage Area, where events and activities will be held until April 3.
