Sharjah24: Reaffirming its belief in International Women's Day’s goal to accelerate gender parity, Sharjah Girl Guides (SGG) observed the occasion with a series of discussions, virtual meetings and campaigns on social media.
The celebration began on March 7, with SGG participating in a virtual discussion session organised by the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGS). Ten Guides (11-14 years) and Senior Guides (15-18 years) attended the discussion, which highlighted issues related to women and the challenges they face.
On March 8 it featured stories by Emirati women influencers and guides who have contributed to to the UAE’s development jourmey in various sectors. The women also talked about how they overcame several challenges to attain personal goals.
SGG socials also featured several interesting statistics highlighting the accomplishments of Emirati women over the years.
Finally, the entity hosted a virtual talk with award-winning, Chef Mona Al Mansouri, as part of of an inspiring session entitled "Chef Mona chose the challenge", during which she narrated her inspiring journey as a culinary professional and her ambitious plans for the future.
Shaikha Al Shamsi, Manager of SGG, said: “International Women’s Day was yet another opportunity to highlight our role in nurturing the skills and capabilities of UAE’s girls and young women, guided by the vision of Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, wife of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs (SCFA) and Honorary Patron of SGG.”
She remarked that fostering the spirit of volunteerism and social in SGG members through various activities will enable them to overcome challenges and realise their goals throughout their lives. The IWD activities, in particular, she emphasised were designed to educate the girls about the leading contributions of Emirati women to the UAE’s development journey.
