Sharjah24: The Arabic Language Academy (ALA) in Sharjah has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Sharjah Performing Arts Academy (SPAA) to explore cooperation opportunities, including offering Arabic language courses to non-Arabic students and faculty of SPAA via the Arabic Language Centre at ALA.
Dr. Mohammed Safi Al Mostaghanemi, Secretary-General of the Arabic Language Academy, and Professor Peter Barlow, Executive Director of SPAA, signed the MoU.
This has paved the way for planning strategic collaborations between ALA and SPAA, including the former bringing beginner-level Arabic language courses for non-Arab students and staff of SPAA designed to aid their work and promote the growth of Arabic in the UAE.
Dr. Al Mosteghanemi stressed the importance of building partnerships with educational and cultural institutions such as SPAA, the only dedicated performing arts academy in the Middle East, which will play a vital role in promoting Arabic to students in theatre and supporting Arabic theatre.
“ALA and SPAA have joined hands to promote the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohamed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah,, for the emirate’s cultural development. It is key partnerships like this between like-minded institutions, which will guide collaborative efforts to achieve common goals,” he added.
For his part, Professor Peter Barlow said: “SPAA has a responsibility to the artistic, cultural and economic lives of communitites beyond the Academy. We strive for excellence and the best means of storytelling by embracing all cultures. Our partnership with ALA cements the common path we have found to acknowledge and celebrate the development of performing and production arts in the region.”
