Sharjah24: The Arabic Language Academy in Sharjah (ALA) received a delegation from the Sharjah Consultative Council (SCC)’s Committee on Education, Youth, Culture and Information, Tuesday.
Dr.  Mohammed Safi Al Mosteghanemi, Secretary-General of the Arabic Language Academy (ALA), received the delegation, which was led by Dr. Hamid Jassim Al-Suwaiji Al-Zaabi, Chairperson of the Committee, alongside Committee members Aisha Bukhatir Al Shamsi, Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Yassi, Talib Al-Bali Al-Dhahouri, Nabila Al-Hammadi, Sheikha bin Al-Juwaiid, and Islam Al-Shewi.

The council delegation was received by Dr. Muhammad Safi Al Mostaghanemi, Secretary General of the Arabic Language Academy in Sharjah, HE Khalid bin Butti Al Hajri, Director General of Sharjah University City, and a number of researchers and employees from the Academy.

The meeting aimed to enhance cooperation and coordination between the two sides and discussed opportunities for future collaboration.

The SCC delegation was briefed on ALA’s programmes and activities, including the progress on the Historical Corpus of the Arabic Language – the first-of-its-kind project to chronicle the journey of the Arabic language across 17 centuries that was launched by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohamed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah. ALA released the first eight volumes compiled as part of the project In November last year.

Later, the SCC delegation was given a tour of the Academy, which also houses the Arabic Language Centre that offers free language courses to non-Arabic speakers.

Al Mosteghanemi thanked the delegation for their visit, adding that ALA is considered a new beacon of science and research in Sharjah that plays a vital role in supporting Arab language and scientific academies globally. He stressed its pivotal role in implementing the Historical Corpus project and building cultural bridges with linguistic researchers worldwide.

For their part, the SCC delegation lauded the ongoing efforts of ALA and the critical role it plays in propagating and enriching the Arabic language. It also hailed the Academy's accomplishments under the directives of His Highness Sheikh.
