Sharjah24: The Sharjah International Film Festival for Children and Youth (SIFF), organised by FUNN, the Sharjah-based organisation dedicated to promoting and supporting media arts learning among children and youth, has announced the selection process for junior jurors for its eighth edition set to be held in October.
Children and youth between the ages of 12 – 20 are eligible to apply, and must fill in their applications at https://siff.ae/child-jury-form-2021/ by 15th April, 2021. They should be passionate about films and have a background in acting, direction, production, scriptwriting or any other aspect of filmmaking.
Additionally, the SIFF junior jurors program is looking for candidates with critical thinking capabilities, public speaking skills, confidence and an outgoing personality.
On the completion of preliminary selections, video call interviews will be conducted to review chosen applicants before June 17. The final junior jury of SIFF 2021 will comprise 40 – 50 members.
Workshops for jurors
The junior jury will undergo skills training at a workshop titled ‘Junior Jurors’ Training’, which will be spread over several days between July and October. Four workshops will be held as part of the programme. For jurors in the 12 – 15 age group, workshops will be held from July 25-29, August 22-26, September 19-23, and October 5-6. Jurors aged 16 – 20 will participate in workshops held from July 11-15, August 15-19, September 19-23, and October 5-6.
The workshops will include an introduction to the film festival, showcase the contrbutions and achievements of previous junior jurors, and highlight the jurors' role including their responsibilities during the opening ceremony. The sessions will instruct jurors on how to critique films, and will align with FUNN’s creative approach to stimulate children and young adults to develop their critical thinking and nurture their personal strengths.
Over the years, the junior jury has become a highlight of this film festival, with young jurors proving that they have exceptional critical and evaluation skills. Appointing young jury aligns with the festival’s peer-to-peer approach.
