Iraqi singers kick off new season of ‘letsmajaz’

The legions of fans of Iraqi singers Ali Jasem, Mustafa Al Abdullah and Mahmoud Al Turki had the time of their lives at their joint concert at Sharjah’s premier Al Majaz Amphitheatre on Friday evening, setting the tone for the new season of “letsmajaz”.

The trio kick started the unforgettable evening performing their colossal hit Taal, which has become an anthem for their fans across the Arab world, sending them into throes of delight.

Ali Jassim followed it up with his set of hits, beginning with Tra Tra and Ya Naba Al Rehan, a famous Iraqi folk song. He continued mesmerising the audience with his rendition of by Nathem Al Ghazali’s Aqol wa qad nahat beqorbi hamama, followed by Awaqelak Aqd, composed by Majid Al Muhandis. 

His setlist included the fan-favourites Lahgatni Al Bostan, Awn Wala Nemt Saah Bel Beit, and a cover of Ilham Al Madfai’s masterpiece Boya Mohammed. Ali Jassim concluded his performance with a duet with Mustafa Al Abdullah, Hawa.

Al Abdullah followed up his compatriot with Wa Haq Ele Yaalem Al Gheib, before giving in to audience demand for his biggest hit in recent years, Entis Sheib. He continued to wow his fans with Allah Ya Jamalak and Hatha Al Iraq, dedicating it to his country. 

The enchanting evening picked up-tempo with his renditions of Mfarfesh and Helo Helo. He concluded his set by performing a duet with Mahmoud Al Turki who joined him on stage for Athada Wahad.

Al Turki began the concluding act of the high-energy concert with his rendition of Hasa Sheno, Domni Domni and Ma beek Gher Al Afyah, before performing his 2020 hit Rah Ajeek, following it up with Tadron Shu Gali and Shale Galbi. He ended on a high note by responding to the audience’s request for a rendition of Tawga Ala Al Joroh.

At curtain call, the legendary Iraqi stars reunited on stage for an encore of Taal to the delight of their fans. The singers expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to perform for their fans in the UAE. They described Al Majaz Amphitheatre as an important cultural landmark that acknowledged the role of popular culture by hosting top Arab and International artists.

Al Majaz Amphitheatre management had implemented strict safety protocols in line with the UAE’s stringent precautionary measures to curb the spread of COVID-19. They include sterilisation of the premises, installation of sterilisation gates, and provision of face masks, among others.
