Sharjah’s Committee of Ports holds first meeting at Dibba Al Hisn

Sharjah24: The Sharjah’s Committee of Ports and Border Points held its first periodic meeting in 2021 at Dibba Al Hisn. The meeting comes in the wake of an inspection tour of Dibba Al Hisn’s border points to check on their readiness and their infrastructure efficiency and to develop a holistic vision for uplifting their performance, as well as to ensure the provision of the facilities for the entry of goods and individuals. The tour also included a visit to the medical examination tent that receives 300 - 400 people daily, with the availability of thermal tests, DPI, and the PCR test, while adopting all the necessary precautionary and preventive measures.
Held at Dibba Al-Hisn Comprehensive Police Station, the meeting was headed by His Excellency Mohammed Ibrahim Al Raisi, Director of Ports and Border Points Affairs and Chairman of the Organising Committee for Ports and Border Points, in the presence of Yasser Ali Al Shehhi, Director of the East Coast Office at the Public Authority for the Security of Ports, Borders and Free Zones, Vice Chairman of the Committee.

Attending also were the members of the committee including, Lieutenant Colonel Hamad Saif Al Mazrouei, Director of the Passports Control Center, Khatmat Milaha Border, Lieutenant Colonel Walid Al-Nehm, Head of the Outside Outlets Police Department, Major Maadad Saif Al Shamsi, a representative of the Northern Sector Commander from the Border Guard Group Command, Engineer Ismail Hussein, representative of the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, and Jumah Obaid Al-Marashdeh, representative of the Department of Municipalities Affairs, Agriculture and Livestock, and Abdul Rahman Abdullah Al-Kindi from the Sharjah Ports, Customs and Free Zones Authority, the rapporteur of the committee, along with a representative of the State Security Agency. 

Upgrading services quality 
Thanking His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhamad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, and His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and Chairman of the Sharjah Executive Council for their relentless follow-up on the progress of work to improve the performance of the ports and border points in the Emirate of Sharjah, the committee chairman, and members underscored that the work accomplished wouldn’t have been possible without the support and directives of the wise leadership in terms of harnessing all capabilities to improve the services provided, lauding the efforts exerted by the staff at border crossings during the Covid-19 pandemic in terms of facilitating the entry of travelers and goods, with the strict adherence to the government directives and instructions for the health and safety of everyone. 

Developing work mechanisms
 Mohammed Ibrahim Al Raisi said: “We are committed to achieving the objectives for which the committee had been founded, including upgrading the efficiency and readiness of the ports and border points in the emirate and identifying the challenges and solutions to develop work mechanisms and scale up the services provided, in cooperation with the authorities operating at ports and border points. This is pursuant to the directives of the wise leadership of the Emirate of Sharjah and the vigorous follow-up of Sheikh Khalid bin Abdullah bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Sharjah Ports, Customs and Free Zones Authority." 

Al Raisi went on to say that the committee has explored means of developing work performance at the border points in Dibba Al-Hisn and providing the necessary facilities for the entry and exit of individuals and goods, noting that a special mechanism has been developed for certain categories that are permitted to enter the country, including Omani students studying in the UAE’sschools and universities and those who are having holding medical appointment in the country hospitals. 

Founded under the Sharjah Executive Council’s resolution No. (30) for the year 2020, the membership of the Committee of Ports and Border Points includes the competent authorities operating at ports and border points. The Committee is entrusted with the strengthening of mechanisms of cooperation and coordination between competent authorities in ports and border crossings of Sharjah, the implementation of security, customs, and preventive controls and procedures, and the regulation of entry and exit of individuals and goods.
