"Such poetry, especially Nabati or popular poetry, is not shallow, it is neither about love nor art, no, no, it contains news, events, it contains many things, and poetry conveys them all. One of the tools I used in my research was poetry, geography, antiquities and heritage, they are all tools, even manuscripts, and they are all including a rich material," His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohamed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, at the opening of Al Hirah Literary Council, January 2019.
During the inauguration of one of the oldest institutions that distinguish the Emirate of Culture and Science, His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah drew attention to several points related to poetry as a type of high literature characterising the Arabic language, representing one of the most important aspects of the nation heritage and history and residents of Al Hirah in particular.

His Highness, the Ruler of Sharjah, tackled the rich research and studies of His Highness, the benefits and importance of preserving Nabati poetry, or popular poetry, which is a type of poetry that Arabs were proud of. This type of poetry is closely related to Al Hirah region, which has a rich history, as it was a crossroads of civilisations, tribes and knowledge.

His Highness, the Ruler of Sharjah, explained, according to His Highness' documented statements, that Nabati poetry was used by the Arabs to convey their news to other parties. It was also a documentation of events, such as wars, droughts, news of kings and rulers, and others.

Nabati poetry was also an open arena to learn about the geography, regions names, borders, tribes, plants and others, which opened a window towards a deeper study of the region.

In his speech, attended by many poets and those interested in popular poetry, His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah stated that poetry is an important cultural heritage helping us to learn about previous societies, read and analyse events.

His Highness placed Nabati poetry alongside manuscripts and antiquities, as a source of history and events, which gives researchers the opportunity to learn from Nabati poetry, benefiting the new generations who will learn about their history and heritage, and the greatness of their people.

Certainly, the interest and keenness of His Highness, the Ruler of Sharjah to adopt, inaugurate and establish quality institutions that care for people's lives in various fields, is one of the most important reasons that made Sharjah associated with culture, science, history, and civilisation.
