"Sharjah 24" presents the eight-episode heritage programme "The Voice of the Past ... Stories of Emirati Folk Art" throughout the holy month of Ramadan to explore and dig deep into the Emirati heritage.
"Heritage, rare, and manipulating verses of poetry" ... a description that Ali Al Abdan, Director of the Artistic Heritage Department at the Sharjah Institute for Heritage, considered appropriate for Dan art, one of the Emirati folklore, which involves several popular performative practices, including the art of the welilah, explaining: "Dan is Public art containing Welilah.”
He pointed out that Al Dan is usually performed by men, but some women may enter it, as it happens in the Sultanate of Oman, and it is performed with percussion instruments such as drums, in a quadruple rhythm with a beautiful movement performance that the performers start while sitting on the ground and then rise to complete the show.
