Sharjah24: I am sure that this dictionary will not only provide history, origins, meanings, and explanations of words, but will also document the history of the nation, preserve its civilisation, and celebrate the achievements of Arabs from the Arabian Peninsula to the Atlantic Ocean.

His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohamed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, said during the ceremony of launching the “Arabic Language Historical Dictionary” in Khorfakkan, November 2020. 

With this precise statement, His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah launched the first eight volumes of the “Arabic Language Historical Dictionary” , expressing deep statement in celebrating the completion of the first part of the dictionary, as it is the first part of an authentic pillar of preserving the history of the Arab nation and its authentic language in which it includes the history of the Arab civilisation in several countries. 

At the beginning of his speech, Sharjah Ruler dealt with the key objectives of the dictionary through describing the words, the definition of the semantics of words according to their historical contexts and their etymology.  All these objectives carry in their contents a lot of history, stories and narration of what the peoples, civilisations and countries were in the past. 

Arabic Language Historical Dictionary introduces to the new generation the history of their grandparents, their regions and historical events in which it may pave to carry out  larger and deeper historical and linguistic studies. The dictionary connects the new generation with the history of the nation through the precious language, which preserves the tradition, values and the history of the nation. 

During his speech, Sharjah Ruler clarified that the rest of the objectives of the dictionary are meant to preserve the history of the nation, maintain its civilisation, safeguard the achievements of Arabs and preserve the Arabian memory. These goals represent a great quadruple upon which the nation is being based from the Arabian Peninsula to the Atlantic Ocean. 

Sharjah Ruler added that the comprehensive quadruple holds deep values, history and the pillars of the civilisation upon which the glories of Arabs rebuilt it in several aspects. 

The first step of the Arabic Language Historical Dictionary unveils a precise programme and a big Arabic dream that time has come to realise. The birth of step was in Sharjah, the Emirate of knowledge and enlightenment, it was initiated by His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah ,the author, expert, historian, wise, linguist and educated, who is fully aware that nation’s glory is derived from their history and language which holds all great biographies. 

His Highness added that the glory of the Arab Nation will never return except by the authentic knowledge of that deep-rooted history and genuine language which is the most splendid, finest and oldest among all other languages. 

His Highness continued that the Arabic language needs more attention and care, adding that the idea of authoring the Arabic language historical Dictionary is a great idea that brings good tidings in this context.
