Sharjah24: The Sharjah Department of Culture has published the October 2026 issues of its Al Sharqiya and Al Wusta magazines, both marking their 85th editions. The publications feature a range of reports, interviews and heritage stories highlighting developments, culture, tourism and community life across Sharjah’s Eastern and Central Regions.

The 85th issue of Al Sharqiya magazine features a cover story on the administrative divisions of the cities of Khorfakkan and Kalba, approved by His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, at the end of August.

The issue highlights the ongoing urban development across the Eastern Region, spanning residential neighbourhoods, commercial and industrial areas, beaches, tourism, and archaeological and environmental attractions.

The “Path to the Summit” section features Noura Al Darmaki, a young field leader in the Eastern Region with experience managing tourism and family destinations and projects. “Authentic Features” introduces Saeed Al Mazrouei, who recounts changes in life in Wadi Al Helo, while “Educator of Generations” features an interview with Badriya Al Ketbi of Kalba about her professional journey.

The “Craft” section explores the traditional boat-building profession of qallafah and the craftsman Abdulqader Ali Hassan’s passion for maritime heritage.

The “Welcome” section takes readers on a tour of nature reserves and environmental centres, highlighting them as tourism destinations that help conserve biodiversity. “In the Spotlight” covers the 13th edition of the Malih and Sahnnah Fishing Festival in Dibba Al Hisn.

The issue also features the second International Youth Volleyball Championship in Kalba in the “Arena” section, alongside reports on recreational and sports clubs. “Journey” presents Abdullah Ismail’s experience in playwriting, while “On the Path” profiles young athlete Khalid Al Naqbi.

In “Memory”, the magazine explores the old caravans and the social and economic relationships they fostered, while “Biography” recalls aspects of Abdullah Al Jarrah, who taught the Quran in Khorfakkan, alongside other heritage features.

Al Wusta magazine

The 85th issue of Al Wusta magazine highlights the success story of the Zulal factory in Hamda, Mleiha, which won the gold category at the International Quality Institute Awards in Belgium last June. The achievement adds to the international recognition of a three-decade journey of producing pure natural groundwater.

The “Path to the Summit” section features an interview with Dr Ali Mohammed Saeed Al Rashidi, Head of the External Projects and Aid Sector at Sharjah Charity International. “Authentic Features” presents an interview with Rashid bin Ali bin Huwiden on Al Dhaid and the changes it has undergone.

The “Palm Grower” section introduces engineer Saud Mohammed Al Zamani to explore his experience in palm cultivation, while “Craft” features Ali Abdullah bin Huwiden Al Ketbi, owner of the “Qahwat Lijam” project at the Al Dhaid Equestrian Club.

The magazine also takes readers on a visual tour of Batha Al Sarir in Al Dhaid in “Welcome”. “In the Spotlight” explores the smart system adopted by Al Dhaid Municipality to operate its vehicles and monitor its services.

In the sports section, “Arena” focuses on volleyball at Mleiha Cultural and Sports Club, while “On the Path” tells the story of young karate champion Sultan Saleh Khalifa Al Teneiji.

“Biography” recalls the life of the late Saeed Abdullah bin Huwiden Al Ketbi and his enduring legacy of values and noble deeds. “Memory” revisits memories of Asad Restaurant, a familiar rest stop and landmark for Al Dhaid residents in the 1970s. The issue also includes a selection of heritage articles and varied reports.
