Sharjah 24 – AFP: Nearly 1,100 flights were cancelled following a technical glitch at the UK’s air traffic control service, NATS. The system was later restored, but delays and backlogs continued.

Airports and Airlines Affected

Major airports including Heathrow, Gatwick, Liverpool, Birmingham and Edinburgh were affected. British Airways cancelled or diverted more than 100 flights, while Ryanair said over 65,000 passengers were impacted.

Calls for Action

The disruption has renewed concerns over the UK’s aviation infrastructure following previous failures. Officials are seeking assurances on system reliability, while Ryanair called for changes to NATS leadership.
