Sharjah 24 – Reuters: British cinemas have begun implementing policies to restrict or ban the use of camera-equipped smart glasses, such as AI-powered Meta glasses, amid growing concerns regarding privacy and film piracy.

According to the Association of British Cinemas (ABBC), operators across the country started rolling out these measures on Thursday. Because the restrictions are handled independently by various venue operators rather than through a single industry-wide mandate, rules regarding bans and usage limits vary by location.

The increased scrutiny follows similar actions in other sectors, such as in England and Wales, where courts banned Meta smart glasses this month due to strict regulations against recording inside courtrooms. Meanwhile, the ABBC acknowledged that smart glasses can provide valuable assistance for individuals with specific accessibility needs and stated that it will continue working with member venues to maintain appropriate policies.
