Sharjah 24 – AFP: Reigning Formula 1 world champion Lando Norris has extended his contract with McLaren through 2030, with an option for a further multi-year extension.

The announcement follows Norris’s back-to-back victories in Hungary and the Netherlands, strengthening his title defense after a difficult start to the season. He currently sits fourth in the championship, 83 points behind Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli with 11 races remaining.

Norris, who joined McLaren’s junior programme at 17 and made his F1 debut in 2019, won his first drivers’ championship with the team last season. His title was part of McLaren’s recent resurgence, which also included consecutive constructors’ championships in 2024 and 2025.

With Oscar Piastri contracted through at least 2028, McLaren has secured a strong long-term driver lineup. The team will also give Norris the MCL39 car he drove to his maiden world title last year.
