The six-time Grand Slam champion and former world No. 1 had not reached a final this year, and her title defence at Wimbledon, the third Grand Slam of the season, ended in the third round.

Despite this, Swiatek comfortably overcame world No. 2 Rybakina, the Australian Open champion, to win her first title in Canada.

The victory will see the 25-year-old climb from eighth to fifth in the world rankings, as the US Open, the fourth and final Grand Slam of the year, approaches.
