Sharjah 24: Dr Roqaya Al Ameri, Head of the Marine Biology Department at the University of Khor Fakkan, said the marine environment discovery track of the third edition of the "Sustained" programme has concluded. The programme was organised by the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE) in partnership with the University of Khor Fakkan (UKF), with participation from students in grades nine through twelve.

The four-day track ran at the Sharjah Research Centre for Marine Sciences at the University of  Khor Fakkan, aiming to build environmental awareness among students and deepen their interest in marine science and sustainability.

Building awareness

Dr Al Ameri said the programme was designed to raise students' understanding of the marine environment's importance, introduce them to marine science, and instil sustainability concepts through scientific and applied activities alongside field tours inside the research centre.

From water quality to aquaculture

Speaking to Sharjah24, Dr Al Ameri said the programme gave participants the chance to learn about marine water quality, marine organisms, and aquaculture, alongside carrying out scientific projects that reflected the knowledge and skills they picked up over the course of the programme.

Supporting national sustainability goals

Dr Al Ameri said the university's hosting of the programme reflects its role in supporting national initiatives aimed at preparing a generation aware of environmental and sustainability issues, and in strengthening students' interest in scientific research and marine science through its partnership with the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment.
