Sharjah24-Reuters: Scottish counter-terrorism police are investigating a series of violent attacks across Edinburgh that left five people injured and are believed to have been motivated by anti-Muslim hatred.

Authorities arrested a 36-year-old white Scottish man after a series of assaults, threats, robberies and acts of vandalism that began near a mosque on Friday.

Police said three of the five injured victims required hospital treatment for injuries that were not life-threatening.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer condemned the attacks in a post on X, describing the incidents as “utterly horrific” and saying the suspect appeared to have been motivated by hatred of Muslims.

“No one should face violence on our streets,” Starmer said, adding that such actions would not be tolerated and that the suspect would face the full force of the law.

Assistant Chief Constable Catriona Paton also condemned the violence, emphasising that there is no place for racism or religious hatred in Scotland and expressing support for all affected communities.

Police confirmed the suspect remains in custody as investigations continue.
