Sharjah 24 – QNA: British Defence Secretary John Healey has resigned following a sharp dispute over military spending, accusing Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s administration of failing to allocate sufficient resources for national defence in the face of escalating global threats.

In a candid resignation letter, Healey stated that both the Prime Minister and the Treasury were either unable or unwilling to commit the required funding. His departure follows months of escalating tension between the Ministry of Defence and the Treasury over budget increases, a friction that has repeatedly delayed the UK’s comprehensive defence investment plan.

The high-profile resignation underscores deepening anxieties within the defence sector regarding the UK’s capacity to finance long-term security programmes, particularly amidst heightened geopolitical volatility and shifting US involvement in European security.
