The initiative comes amid growing adoption of electric vehicles across the UAE, addressing increasing demand for charging services in Sharjah. It also aligns with the UAE National Electric Vehicle Policy, which aims for EVs—including hybrids—to represent around 50% of all vehicles on the roads by 2050.
Under the agreement, ENOC and ION identified several strategic, high-traffic locations for installing chargers at ENOC service stations. ION will supply, install, and operate the smart chargers through its integrated digital platform. Both entities will also explore future expansion to extend the network across additional areas in the emirate.
Hussain Sultan Lootah, Acting CEO of ENOC Group, said:
“Sharjah’s rapid progress in sustainability and innovation is a key pillar of the UAE’s vision for a greener economy. We are proud to support the emirate’s transformation into a model for smart mobility and environmental leadership. This strategic partnership reflects our commitment to developing future-ready energy infrastructure and accelerating the adoption of clean energy solutions nationwide.”
Aamir Milad, CEO of ION, said:
“We are pleased to collaborate with ENOC to enhance access to EV charging stations in Sharjah. Through ENOC stations, our integrated ecosystem will streamline the deployment, operation and maintenance of EV chargers. EV owners will enjoy a seamless experience—from locating and reserving chargers, to tracking charging status in real time and making secure digital payments. This partnership is a major step toward more sustainable mobility in Sharjah and the UAE.”
ION recently unveiled its unified digital platform that connects network operators, property owners, fleet managers, drivers, and government entities within a single intelligent app. This innovative solution aims to standardise regional charging services, improve efficiency, and drive sustainable growth in the electric mobility sector.
The partnership builds on ION’s ongoing projects with Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority (SRTA), which include developing an integrated network of more than 100 ultra-fast charging stations across strategic locations in the emirate. These stations ensure safe and rapid charging, delivering a smooth end-to-end experience from plug-in to digital payment.
ION has implemented several pioneering projects in the UAE, such as installing the Gulf region’s first ultra-fast charger on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi and collaborating with Masdar City on an electric fleet for sustainable mobility. The ION mobile application is available on the Apple App Store and Google Play in the UAE, with plans for regional expansion and deployment of its full charging management ecosystem across GCC countries.
