Sharjah 24: Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz advanced to the semifinals of the ATP Finals in Turin after defeating Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti 6-4, 6-1. The win also secures Alcaraz the year-end world number one ranking, marking the second time he achieves this milestone.

World number one secured

The 22-year-old capped a stellar season with eight titles, including both the French Open and the US Open, bringing his career tally to 24 titles—six of them Grand Slams. Alcaraz overtook Jannik Sinner in the rankings, the only player who could have challenged him for the top spot this year.
“This means the world to me,” Alcaraz said. “Finishing the year at number one has always been my goal.”

Semifinal line-up finalised

Alcaraz will join seventh-seeded Australian Alex de Minaur in the semifinals, after de Minaur defeated American Taylor Fritz 7-6 (7-3), 6-3.

Shifts at the top

Alcaraz had dethroned Sinner in September after the Italian’s 65-week reign. Sinner briefly retook the top spot for a week in November before Alcaraz reclaimed it with his performance in Turin.
