Sharjah24: As part of its ongoing plan to modernise public lighting systems and improve energy efficiency across the emirate, the Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority (SEWA) has finished replacing traditional streetlights with LED energy-saving fixtures along Wadi Al Helo Road and in University City.

The project involved installing 304 LED fixtures on Wadi Al Helo Road and 367 LED fixtures in the University City area, greatly improving road visibility, enhancing safety for motorists and pedestrians, and promoting a more sustainable urban environment.

Supporting Sharjah’s infrastructure and safety goals

Engineer Yousef Al Hammadi, Director of SEWA Kalba’s Branch, stated that the Authority continues to implement development and lighting projects across all regions according to a comprehensive plan and schedule, in line with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah.

He added that SEWA is committed to providing high-quality services and modern infrastructure upgrades in Kalba City and its surrounding areas, ensuring public safety, energy efficiency, and an attractive urban landscape.

Al Hammadi noted that using LED technology reduces electricity consumption, lowers maintenance costs, and extends the lifespan of lighting systems—aligning with Sharjah’s broader sustainability goals.

Enhancing sustainability and urban aesthetics

The lighting upgrade project is a component of SEWA’s strategic sustainability plan designed to improve infrastructure, cut carbon emissions, and boost road safety standards across the emirate.

By adopting environmentally friendly lighting solutions, SEWA continues to play a vital role in supporting Sharjah’s vision for sustainable urban development and enhancing the quality of life for residents and visitors alike.
