SCC committee reviews SRTA's plans and projects

Sharjah24: In preparation for the Sharjah Consultative Council (SCC) upcoming session to discuss the policy of the Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority (SRTA), the Committee on Islamic Affairs, Endowments, Municipalities, Security, and Public Facilities conducted a field visit to the Authority’s headquarters in Sharjah City. The visit aimed to gain firsthand insight into the SRTA’s ongoing and future projects to enhance the emirate’s road and transportation systems.

Committee leadership and participants

The visit was headed by Engineer Jamila Mohammed Al Fandi Al Shamsi, Chairperson of the Committee, and attended by members Ahmed Obaid Al Awasi Al Zaabi (Rapporteur), Ahmed Rashid Al Shamsi, Majid Ahmed Al Darwishi Al Shamsi, Sultan bin Dalmouk Al Suwaidi, Ahmed Humaidi Al Ketbi, and Salem Mohammed Al Rashdi, along with Saif Salem bin Swaif Al Ketbi from the Council’s General Secretariat.

The delegation was received by Engineer Yousef Khamis Al Athmani, Member of the Sharjah Executive Council and Chairman of the SRTA, accompanied by Engineer Suleiman Abdulrahman Al Hajri, Director of Roads Affairs, Abdulaziz Mohammed Al Jarwan, Director of Transport Affairs, and several department directors and heads of sections.

Emphasis on Roads and Transport as a public priority

Engineer Jamila Al Fandi Al Shamsi stressed that the Council attaches great importance to the roads and transport sector due to its direct impact on residents’ comfort, safety, and quality of life. She praised the Authority’s commitment to improving its services according to the highest technical and engineering standards, highlighting its effective collaboration with other government entities.

She noted that these field visits are part of a series of coordination meetings aimed at supporting government efforts and enhancing parliamentary oversight based on transparency and institutional cooperation.

SRTA’s vision for a safe and sustainable transport network

In his remarks, Engineer Yousef Khamis Al Athmani emphasized that the SRTA operates within an integrated vision to provide a safe, efficient, and sustainable transport network that meets urban and population growth demands. He explained that the Authority prioritizes upgrading existing roads, expanding key routes, and improving public transport networks through long-term strategic projects.

Al Athmani reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to the highest standards of quality and safety in implementing its projects and initiatives. He also underscored SRTA’s continuous efforts to adopt modern technologies in smart transport and traffic management, in cooperation with relevant agencies.

Review of strategic plans and ongoing projects

During the meeting, SRTA presented its strategic plans for developing road infrastructure and improving public transport efficiency, in line with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi,  Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah. The presentation outlined efforts to achieve comprehensive and sustainable urban development that meets residents’ needs and keeps pace with the emirate’s rapid urban expansion.

The discussion also covered current projects, including the expansion of key roads, the enhancement of traffic intersections, the development of smart parking systems, and improvements to public transport services. The Authority also highlighted its future initiatives, such as the adoption of modern and eco-friendly transport systems, including studies on smart mobility solutions aimed at improving quality of life and reducing the carbon footprint.

Strengthening cooperation and future outlook

The meeting concluded with both sides reaffirming their commitment to continued cooperation between the Council and the SRTA to fulfill the aspirations of the wise leadership and serve the public interest. The Committee commended the efforts of national cadres for their role in executing development projects that embody Sharjah’s ongoing progress and sustainable urban renaissance.
