“I can only extend my praise and appreciation for President Trump’s initiative that seeks a ceasefire in Gaza after two years of war, genocide, killing, and destruction,” Sisi said during a speech commemorating the 1973 Arab-Israeli War, which ended Israel’s occupation of the Sinai Peninsula.
He added that a ceasefire, the return of prisoners, the reconstruction of Gaza, and the launch of a peace process leading to the creation of a Palestinian state are steps “on the right path to lasting peace and stability.”
Sisi reflected on the Yom Kippur War and the subsequent Camp David Accords of 1979, which made Egypt the first Arab country to establish formal diplomatic ties with Israel. He described the accords as the foundation for future peace deals in the region and urged that they be strengthened.
“Peace imposed by force only generates strife, while peace built on justice produces true normalisation,” he emphasized.
Egypt has played a central role in mediating between Hamas and Israel, working closely with Qatar and the United States to de-escalate tensions. Sisi reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to protecting its national security, warning against any forced displacement of Palestinians into Egyptian territory.
“The Egyptian army remains committed to defending the nation and safeguarding its borders, undeterred by challenges,” Sisi said.
Since the Camp David Accords, Egypt has been one of the largest recipients of US military aid and continues to maintain close security cooperation with Israel, a partnership that has underpinned decades of regional stability and strategic coordination.
