Khorfakkan Intl. Conference for the Disabled concluded

Sharjah 24: Under the gracious patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member, Ruler of Sharjah, and President of the University of Khorfakkan, and in the presence of Sheikh Saeed bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Deputy Head of the Ruler’s Office in Khorfakkan, the 8th edition of the Khorfakkan International Scientific Conference on Disability and Adapted Physical Education kicked off at the University of Khorfakkan (UKF) on October 1–2. Among the distinguished attendees was Professor Tomoyasu Yasui of Hokkaido University of Education in Japan, who praised the conference, describing it as a significant platform that advances global dialogue on disability and adapted physical education.

The conference is organised by Khorfakkan Club for the Disabled, in collaboration with the Academy of Sports Science Research and Development (DRASAA), and supported by Sharjah Sports Council, under the theme: “Sustainable Physical Activity and Quality of Life for Persons with Disabilities.”

Learning about Southeast Asian countries experience

Professor Tomoyasu Yasui of Hokkaido University of Education in Japan expressed his admiration for the city of Khorfakkan, describing it as “a very, very beautiful city” and emphasizing that participating in the conference was not only a valuable academic experience but also “a very good opportunity and a good feeling.” He highlighted the importance of the event in bringing together experts from different regions of the world to share perspectives on disability and adapted physical education.

Professor Yasui noted that through the conference he was able to learn extensively about the realities and challenges faced by Southeast Asian countries in promoting adapted physical activity and the attitudes toward integrating persons with disabilities into sports. He stressed the need for continued international cooperation and knowledge sharing, concluding: “I hope we should cooperate with information and exchange in the future.” His remarks reflected the spirit of dialogue, inclusivity, and global collaboration that the conference seeks to foster.
