A low-impact retreat in the Kalba mountains
Set between the Kalba Mountains, Nomad is designed as a low-impact retreat that seamlessly integrates with the surrounding environment. The project is powered by a hybrid energy system, incorporating solar panels and natural materials of the highest quality. This initiative is part of Shurooq’s broader strategy to expand Sharjah’s hospitality offerings through destinations that prioritize biodiversity conservation while delivering authentic visitor experiences.
Sustainability at the heart of Sharjah's tourism strategy
"Sharjah has placed sustainability at the heart of its tourism strategy, and Nomad reflects this vision by demonstrating how development and environmental preservation can coexist," said Ahmed Ben Zaied, Sharjah Collection General Manager. "By embedding the project within the Sharjah Collection portfolio, we are reinforcing the emirate’s reputation as a destination where culture, nature, and innovation meet."
Infrastructure solutions for challenging terrain
For DAW, the mandate goes beyond conventional infrastructure. The company has developed access roads tailored to the challenging terrain, constructed water and sewerage networks, and built foundations and service systems designed for the project’s long-term operational needs. Additionally, breakwater structures, water channels, and renewable-ready utilities have been incorporated to ensure the site operates independently of conventional networks.
Use of advanced materials and sustainable technologies
Central to this approach is the use of polymer resin concrete (PRC), a cutting-edge material that offers superior durability and reduces maintenance while minimizing environmental impact. This, combined with photovoltaic-ready steel structures and advanced water and waste management systems, reflects DAW’s commitment to translating Shurooq’s eco-friendly vision into high-performance, sustainable infrastructure.
Overcoming environmental challenges
"Nomad presented unique geographic and environmental challenges, but also an opportunity to demonstrate how infrastructure can serve both sustainability and performance," said Tarek Musbah Abdul Rahman, General Manager of DAW. "Our role was to ensure that every stage of delivery supports Shurooq’s eco-tourism standards while providing long-term durability and resilience in a sensitive natural setting."
Setting a benchmark for eco-tourism infrastructure
By aligning advanced engineering practices with Sharjah’s destination strategy, DAW is proud to contribute to one of the emirate’s most forward-thinking tourism projects. The work sets a new benchmark for environmentally responsible infrastructure in the region, helping to shape the future of sustainable tourism in Sharjah.
