Al Wasl kicks off AFC Champions League 2 tomorrow

Sharjah 24: Al Wasl will begin its campaign in the AFC Champions League 2 tomorrow, facing Iran’s Esteghlal at Zabeel Stadium at 8:00 PM UAE time, in the opening round of Group A of the continental competition.

Expanded tournament format

The current edition of the tournament features 32 teams, divided into eight groups, with four teams representing the eastern zone of Asia and four in the western zone.

Al Wasl, eight-time UAE League champions—including two titles during the professional era—is aiming to follow in the footsteps of Sharjah, which clinched the continental title for the first time in its history last season.

Under the guidance of Portuguese coach Luís Castro, Al Wasl brings with it a wealth of experience. Castro’s résumé includes major titles such as the 2023 Arab Club Championship with Al Nassr and the 2022 Emir Cup with Al Duhail.
