Sharjah 24: Dr Heba Hagrass, United Nations Special Rapporteur on the rights of persons with disabilities, highlighted an important trend worldwide: the move towards care systems that include everyone—this means not just people with disabilities, but also the elderly and children.

She pointed out that the ideas of care and support go hand in hand. Sometimes, people need direct help with daily tasks, while other times, they just need emotional support or assistance in making decisions so they can live independently.

In her comments to "Sharjah 24," Dr Hagrass stressed that this idea is central to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. According to the Convention, everyone should receive the care and support they need to lead independent lives and work towards their personal and professional goals.

She also spoke about the importance of encouraging sports and other activities that empower people with disabilities. These activities help boost their self-confidence and develop the skills they need to be active and successful members of society.
