In an interview with “Sharjah 24,” Al Yafei highlighted that the conference will address crucial issues such as the rights of people with disabilities in areas like education, healthcare, and job opportunities. She emphasized the need to close shelters, encouraging that individuals with intellectual disabilities should live with their families and remain active in their communities, where they feel most comfortable.
A standout feature of this congress is that it won’t focus on academic research papers; instead, it will showcase real-life experiences from around the world. Over three days, 152 different global experiences will be shared, along with perspectives from self-advocates—people who speak up for themselves and others with similar challenges. Al Yafei believes that bringing together families from across the globe who share this common mission will greatly enhance their emotional and social support.
