Both sides emphasised the importance of consolidating these efforts in a joint memorandum of cooperation to be signed in the future.
This came during a meeting between His Excellency Dr Abdulaziz Al Musallam, Chairman of the Sharjah Institute for Heritage (SIH), and a delegation from the Arabic Language Protection Association, headed by Dr Saeed Obaid Salem Balleith, Chairman of the Board.
Dr Abdulaziz Al Musallam praised the efforts made by the Association, stressing that Sharjah, under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has taken significant steps to support the Arabic language and empower it both institutionally and academically through programmes and initiatives that have established the Emirate as a leading cultural destination.
Al Musallam pointed out that the traditional methods followed in teaching Arabic in curricula have created a wide gap between the younger generation and the language, limiting their ability to fully grasp it. He stressed the need to explore modern methods and contemporary tools that bring the language closer to learners and strengthen their connection to it.
For his part, Dr Saeed Obaid Salem Balleith commended the efforts of the SIH in preserving heritage and safeguarding Emirati identity, affirming that the focus on Arabic and bringing it closer to audiences represents an urgent necessity.
He added that the Association seeks to build bridges of cultural cooperation with cultural and educational institutions to achieve its intended objectives, noting that collaboration with the SIH would enrich the Association’s experience.
The meeting was attended, on behalf of the Association, by Mohammed Shuaib Al Hammadi, Financial and Administrative Director, and Dr Jamal Yousif Al Zarouni, Board Secretary. Representing the Institute were Aisha Rashid Al Hassan Al Shamsi, Director of the Arab Heritage Centre; Dr Khalid Al Shehhi, Director of the Academic Administration; and Dr Mini Bounama, Director of Content and Publishing.
