Sharjah 24 – AFP: A fire erupted on Sunday at Arthur’s Seat, the extinct volcano that towers over Edinburgh, Scotland’s capital. The blaze spread rapidly across the popular hiking and tourist site, sending plumes of smoke visible for kilometres.

Emergency response underway

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed on its website: "Fire crews are at the scene of a fire in an open area at Arthur's Seat, Holyrood Park, Edinburgh."

Police have urged motorists and pedestrians to avoid the area as firefighters continue efforts to contain the fire.

Iconic landmark threatened

Arthur’s Seat is the highest point in Holyrood Park, located near the Scottish Parliament and at the end of the historic Royal Mile. Rising around 250 metres above sea level, it offers panoramic views of Edinburgh and is a favourite spot for hikers and tourists.

Tourism impact during peak season

The incident comes during Edinburgh’s peak tourist season in August, when the city hosts the world-famous Edinburgh International Arts Festival, the Fringe Comedy Festival, and — this year — a reunion tour by rock band Oasis.

The fire could affect visitor access and event logistics in the area.
