Sharjah24: Sharjah 24: The Sharjah Human Resources Department (SHRD) organised a two-level sign language training programme targeting front-line government employees and those working in customer service.

Enhancing government employees’ skills

The programme, in cooperation with the Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services (SCHS), is part of its efforts to enhance the skills of government personnel and improve the quality of services provided.

The programme, held at the headquarters of the Regional Centre for Educational Planning (UNESCO), aims to enable employees to learn the basics and rules of sign language and disseminate it across government agencies. This will facilitate communication with people with hearing disabilities, ensuring an integrated service environment that caters to the needs of all groups.

Ensure equal opportunities for all segments of society

The programme included an explanatory introduction to sign language and its basic vocabulary. It also introduced hearing disabilities and ways to interact with those with hearing impairments, as well as the culture and awareness associated with this language.

The programme focused on practical training and developing the practical skills of participants. This programme is part of the SHRD ongoing efforts to empower employees with comprehensive communication tools and ensure equal opportunities for all segments of society.

This is achieved by enhancing the efficiency of government services and providing a more inclusive environment for people with disabilities. The programme comes in line with the Sharjah Government's vision to enhance quality of life, its inherent interest in people with disabilities, and its commitment to creating an environment and achieving distinguished service standards for them.
